Veritas Academy is a preschool-12th grade classical Christian school founded in 1996 to serve the community of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The private school offers a rigorous curriculum that includes a thorough commitment to the seven great liberal arts--the skills that are meant to prepare people to fully participate in a free society. The structure of Veritas’ curriculum produces students who know the facts, think clearly and critically, and communicate effectively.

Veritas Academy’s 385 students (Preschool-12th grade) come from a wide range of backgrounds. Currently there are 129 students in grades 7-12. The student-teacher ratio in 9th-12th grades is 16:1. Presently, over 50% of Veritas Academy students (K-12) receive some form of financial aid.

Curriculum:

The time-tested method of the Trivium gives students more than book knowledge. The Trivium is the pattern of education used in schools in the great liberal arts tradition. A classical education provides students with the tools for learning and makes them learners for life. Our education harkens back to the learning done by leaders such as Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and Jonathan Edwards.

  • Our Grammar School (K-6) focuses on memorizing facts, mastering crucial skills like reading and mathematical ability, and exercising the memory.
  • During the Logic years (7th-9th grades), our focus is on encouraging students to think logically, clearly, and critically about ideas.
  • During the Rhetoric years (10th-12th grades), our focus shifts to presentation, persuasion, and effective communication.

Our distinctive Omnibus curriculum combines history, theology and literature. The curriculum culminates with a 35-page Senior Thesis that is defended orally in front of a panel of experts in the subject matter of the thesis.

Class Rank:

Veritas Academy does not rank students.

Grading:

The following percentages, grades, and grade points are used school-wide:

Percentage Grade Grade Point Average
100-90 A 4.0
89-80 B 3.0
79-70 C 2.0
69-0 F 0.0

All of Veritas Academy’s courses are taught at an honors level.  No courses are weighted—the highest GPA in any course is 4.0. We do not offer any AP courses. Administration and the board are concerned that advanced placement course objectives will be in conflict with a highly rigorous fully integrated curriculum at Veritas Academy.

All students are required to complete a curriculum that generally meets or exceeds typical AP standards. We do provide a dual credit program through Cairn University in which selected courses at Veritas Academy (Sr. Thesis, Calculus I and II, and Advanced Chemistry) receive credit from Veritas and from Cairn.
