SAT scores

It seems that County SAT score have gone up slightly this year. Here is the article:

SAT Scores Chart

This is good news. How good? I am never sure. The article is all about the slight improvement. The scary number is on the chart at the far left (the chart is to the right of the article). This number shows participation rates. They range from a high of 77% at LS to a low of 40% in Columbia. This means that the averages that you see represent only three quarters to one half of the students. Some of this is legit. The SAT is a college bound test. Not all students will take it. It is frightening when you look at the McCaskey and Columbia numbers. This is a great argument for the OSTC scholarship that allow students to get out of these districts!

Note also how meaningful the participation rate is. Presently, it would appear that the Lancaster County averages are lower than the national averages. This seems ridiculous at it is! Look at the participation rate at the bottom of the chart. Lancaster County's rate is 63% the national average is 47%. Big difference.
